Kalashayi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Kalashayi, Awat County, Xinjiang . It was named by Xinjiang Petroleum Administration in 1969, and formally cited in Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.
Lithology and Thickness
Claystone, Gypsum and Limestone. Dominated by intertidal-lagoon facies sediments of red mudstone and gypsum. In the Selibuya area of the southwestern part, it is composed of limestone and dolomite deposited under a semi-closed environment, only with minor gypsum mudstone at bottom. Eastward to the Hotan River valley, they turn into neritic coal-bearing sediments, with an exposed thickness of 190−734 m.

Conformable or disconformable contact with the overlying Xiaohaizi Fm
Regional extent
The formation outcrops only on the east bank of the Xiaohaizi Reservoir and at Kalashayi in western North Tarim

Fossils
Containing fusulinids, brachiopods, bivalves, gastropods and ostracods Polytylites sp., Healdinella sp., Paraparchites sp., Bairdia sp., etc. around Seliyabu, and yielding conodonts Polygnathodus symmetricus, P. communis, Bispathodus aculeatus, Clydagnathus cavusformis, etc. (Liu Chao’an et al., 1991) near the south sluice gate on the east side of the Xiaohaizi Reservoir in Bachu County.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as an intertidal-lagoon facies at type section; and neritic facies in Hotan River valley.
