Kalashayi Formation

Kalashayi Fm

Period:
Carboniferous

Age Interval:
C1−C12 (17), Early Carboniferous to early-middle Late Carboniferous

Province:
Xinjiang

Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Kalashayi, Awat County, Xinjiang . It was named by Xinjiang Petroleum Administration in 1969, and formally cited in Regional Stratigraphic Scale of Xinjiang in 1981.

Lithology and Thickness

Claystone, Gypsum and Limestone. Dominated by intertidal-lagoon facies sediments of red mudstone and gypsum. In the Selibuya area of the southwestern part, it is composed of limestone and dolomite deposited under a semi-closed environment, only with minor gypsum mudstone at bottom. Eastward to the Hotan River valley, they turn into neritic coal-bearing sediments, with an exposed thickness of 190−734 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Gypsiferous claystone
